This script is a specialized financial analysis tool designed to identify significant price extremes—specifically "fractals"—on a trading chart. By using three different layers of sensitivity, it helps traders visualize key support and resistance levels across various timeframes or market behaviors simultaneously.

Core Functionality

The logic operates on the principle of identifying ZigZag points. In trading, a ZigZag is a line that connects highs and lows, ignoring minor price fluctuations to highlight only the most important structural movements. This script automates that process by scanning the historical price data to find prominent peaks and valleys.

How the Logic Works:

1. Three-Layer Analysis (Multi-Timeframe Approach) The script processes the market data through three distinct "periods" or sensitivities simultaneously:

  • Fast Layer: Captures quick, short-term fluctuations.
  • Medium Layer: Identifies standard structural movements.
  • Slow Layer: Highlights major, long-term trends and significant turning points.

2. Detection Criteria (Deviation and Backstep) To determine what counts as a "significant" point, the script uses two primary rules:

  • Deviation: This acts as a noise filter. It ensures that a price point is only marked if it moves a specific distance from the previous peak or valley. This prevents the chart from becoming cluttered with insignificant "wiggles."
  • Backstep: This defines the minimum number of bars (candles) required between two peaks or valleys to consider them separate structural points.

3. Fractal Identification and Pruning The internal logic doesn't just mark every high and low; it performs a "cleaning" process:

  • It identifies a potential peak or valley based on the surrounding price action.
  • It then compares new points against existing ones. If a newer, higher peak is found that breaks the previous structure, the script "prunes" (removes) the older point and replaces it with the more significant one.
  • This ensures that only the most extreme boundaries of price movement remain visible.

4. Visual Output The script translates these mathematical calculations into visual symbols on your chart. Each of the three layers is assigned its own specific icon style and color:

  • Upward movements (Support): Marked with one set of symbols.
  • Downward movements (Resistance): Marked with a different set of symbols.

Summary for the User

Instead of looking at a messy chart of every tiny price movement, this script filters out the "noise." It highlights only the structural "turning points" where the market has made significant moves. By providing three different layers of these points, it allows you to see the interplay between immediate price action and the broader long-term trend in one unified view.
